ABOUT ME

Japanese Shakuhachi, Shinobue and Flute player based in London and Edinburgh

​

Tomoko Kinuta began her musical studies at the Music Department of Kobe College in Japan. She graduated with a Master of Music degree from Goldsmiths College, where she was a student of Sarah O’Flynn.

 

Tomoko attended master classes given by Michael Cox, Ian Clark, and Peter-Lukas Graf.

 

She also studies the Tozan style of shakuhachi with Ryokuzan Edo.

 

She studied Community Engagement in Music with Midori Goto and received a certificate from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music.

 

She built her career as a community musician through Live Music Now, Mini Mozart, and her own workshops. Currently, she is working as a Performer in Residence for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

 

As a shakuhachi and flute player, Tomoko has given many concerts and workshops in schools and community spaces such as hospitals, museums, and care homes.

 

She has recorded for Sony Computer Entertainment and has recently appeared on BBC Persia and at the Edinburgh Festival.

Tomoko has recorded for Sony Computer Entertainment and has  appeared on BBC Persia.

WORKSHOPS for CHILDREN and ADULTS

A Musical Experience

Tomoko provides a fun way for the audience to explore music.  She introduces several flutes from Japan and Western countries.  Participants of the workshop can explore the history, mechanics and culture of these flutes.
Children will be able to interact with the instruments and try to play.

LIVE PERFORMANCES

A Distinctive Sound

Tomoko collaborates with various types of artists, such as dancers, florists, actors, and others.

She can create and introduce new possibilities for collaborative arts.

​

She has performed for Edinburgh Festival Fringes, Musa Japon in Tenerife, and many other music festivals.
